The magnetometer Magnetic Property Measurement System (MPMS ® 3) has a sensitivity of ≤ 10-8 emu and combines sensor dc SQUID (Quantum Design ©) technology with a vibrating sample magnetometer. The system operates from 1.8 K to 400 K, and can also perform measurements includes 400 to 1,000 K with coupling of a heating system, available in our laboratory. The temperature stability is + / – 0.5% and less than + / Accuracy – 1% or 0.5 K.

The magnetic field can be applied varies from -70 to 70kOe (7T) with 0.01% uniformity in 4 cm. The loading rate of the field can be 4 Oe / s to 700 Oe / s. The machine presents remanent magnetic field of about ~ 5 Oe and a maximum magnetic moment (dc) that can be measured is 10 emu.

For measurements with ac field frequencies between 0.1 Hz and 1 kHz field with amplitude 0.1 Oe to 10 Oe can be used.

Accessories:

 

Pressure cell:

The device is a pressure cell that achieves pressures up to 1.3 GPa that is used as an accessory to the Quantum Design SQUID-VSM MPMS3 Magnetometer. This equipment will allow magnetic measurements in samples under pressure, allowing the investigation of different types of materials that have shown that pressure alters the magnetic properties, mainly oxides based on AgWO4 and similar ones, which in addition to the magnetic properties that arise from structural defects also have a high bactericidal and antiviral effect. This has been shown in tests done using several products used to protect against COVID-19. With this accessory many other materials can be investigated.

 

Optical Measurement Device:

The optical measurement device is an accessory to the Quantum Design SQUID-VSM MPMS3 Magnetometer. This device makes it possible to measure the effects of light on the magnetic properties of materials, providing magnetization measurements with different wavelengths of visible and near infrared light. This technique undoubtedly allows the study of a series of materials, mainly oxides whose magnetism arises from defects, thus opening interesting possibilities for applications of these materials as opto-spintronic devices.

 

Chiller:

The Chiller guarantees the lifespan of the He closed circuit compressor that operates the system, as it guarantees the cooling of the system.

 

Vertical and horizontal sample positioner:

It makes it possible to carry out measurements as a function of the direction of the magnetic field.
